I37 - Radio 1 DJ Dev to open M Festival!Category: Misc - Posted by Jackyd - 03/08/2009 - 18:30

This is taken from the Multiplay website. In my opinion this is a massive step forward again for the progression of e-sports in general.

3rd August 2009 – Multiplay are pleased to announce that Radio 1 DJ Devin Griffin will be making an appearance on Friday 7th August to open M Festival. Dev is really passionate about gaming and fighting games such as Street Fighter are high on his list of favourites. In conjunction with Colosseum Games, Dev will be taking part in a Celebrity Fun Street Fighter 4 tournament on the main stage at M Festival.

Held from 7th – 10th August at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, M Festival is the largest electronic games festival in the UK – and ranks high as one of the premium gaming events in Europe. The purpose of M Festival is to bring the world of computer games and gaming technology to the public at large, whilst also appealing to the existing games community.

The M Festival events aim to bring more awareness and exposure of how far games have come, by bringing both the hard core and casual gamers together for a four day celebration of gaming. This latest announcement shows that M Festival is making real progress!

BBC Radio 1 recently announced Dev as the new host of the weekend breakfast show, previously he was presenting the early breakfast on BBC 1Xtra. Dev was at 1Xtra since the station launched in 2002 – first presenting a Saturday show with Reggie Yates, and then hosting his own weekend show before early weekday breakfast.

On opening M Festival Devin Griffin said “I am looking forward to attending and opening M Festival at Stoneleigh Park on Friday, meeting so many gamers in one place will be fun. I have been playing Street Fighter for years and with Colosseum Games we are excited to bring our celebrity tournaments to M Festival”.

Multiplay Managing Director Craig Fletcher said “We are very excited about Dev’s attendance at the M Festival. Having such a high profile figure attending who is truly passionate about games shows not only just how far gaming has come along in the mainstream, but the growing audience and appeal of our events. No longer is being a gamer associated with being antisocial but quite the opposite. It’s a very social pass time and more and more people in the UK are discovering just how engaging and rewarding it can be.”
